There’s nothing quite like having your own space, is there? Only, sometimes, that perfect space isn’t always where you think it might be.
Typically, a personal space can be found in the garage, garden room, a spare bedroom, or converted loft space. But what if you look a little further afield to something like a storage unit?
That’s right – storage units aren’t just for storing stuff while you’re moving house; they’re brilliant personal spaces, too.
Here are some of the most compelling alternative use cases we’ve discovered for storage units.
Your own personal gym
Gyms aren’t cheap, are they? You also have to share them with strangers and wait forever until the next treadmill becomes available.
These are just a few of the reasons why personal gyms have become so popular of late. But what if you don’t have the space for your own?
Thanks to the relatively low cost of storage units, it’s become increasingly common for people to use them as personal gyms. Some even run their own personal fitness businesses from them!
The perfect office space
Have you found yourself working at home more regularly that you prefer? A storage unit could be the perfect solution.
Office space isn’t cheap, which is why people are increasingly turning to alternative spaces in which to get stuff done and make a success of their small businesses.
Even if it’s just for a short period of time to see how you adapt to having your own office away from home, a storage unit will give you the space you need to experiment.
An extra wardrobe (we all need one)
Running out of wardrobe space at home? Why not convert a storage unit into an additional wardrobe?
It might sound daft, but this is particularly useful if you have lots of off-season clothes which you won’t need for several months. Why have them clogging up space within your house when you could instead hide them neatly away in self-storage? If you have a lot of occasion wear you don’t need very much, putting them safely away is ideal. After all, you can retrieve them whenever you wish.
A hobby space
We have a customer who uses a unit in which to build Lego. For him, it’s the perfect bolthole away from home and a space in which to indulge in his favourite hobby.
We’re seeing this more often with our storage units. There’s nothing wrong with undertaking your hobby at home, but if space is at a premium or you simply want to get away from everything when indulging in your own hobby, a storage unit could be perfect.
Just think – you can make as much noise and mess (within reason) as you like and return to a sparkling-clean house when you’re done!
The art studio you’ve always wanted
If you’re the sort of person who loves investing time in art and craft but hate the idea of messing up your home in the process, a storage unit could be the perfect answer.
Art is messy, but that’s when you get your most creative and best work done. So, why be hampered by your space? If you undertake your art projects in self-storage, you’ll have no worries about ruining your home or fitting all your art and craft materials in, and you can focus on the art itself.
The ideas above for storage units all come from our brilliantly creative customers. If any of them have inspired you to create your own, just get in touch with the Squab team to find out more.
