Six months ago, we introduced the Squab Price Charter with a simple idea: self storage pricing should be clear, fair and easy to understand.
Not just the price you pay when you first move in, but what happens afterwards too.
Six months on, that principle remains at the heart of how we price storage across Squab. More importantly, we’re seeing that greater transparency is helping customers ask better questions when choosing where to store.
Why we introduced the Squab Price Charter
Choosing a self storage unit usually starts with a fairly straightforward question: how much will it cost?
But comparing self storage prices isn’t always as simple as comparing the number advertised today.
Introductory discounts can make the initial cost of storage attractive, but customers also need to understand what happens when that promotion ends and how their price may change if they stay for longer.
That matters because storage isn’t always a short-term purchase.
You might initially need a unit while moving house, renovating or creating some extra space, only to discover that you need it for longer than expected. Businesses can also use storage for months or years as their requirements change.
We believe you should be able to make that decision knowing how your storage provider approaches pricing from the outset.
That is why we created the Squab Price Charter.
What does the Squab Price Charter mean for customers?
The Charter sets out six commitments governing the way we approach storage pricing across Squab.
1. Prices you can see upfront
Our storage prices are published online. You don’t have to hand over your personal details just to find out what a storage unit costs.
2. Honest introductory offers
When we run a promotion, its terms should be clear. Introductory offers are there to make getting started with storage easier, not to disguise what you’ll pay later.
3. A period of price stability
Once your promotional period ends and your storage moves to the normal store rate, we commit to holding that price steady for a period of up to 12 months.
4. Local market pricing
Storage prices can vary between Squab locations because every local market is different. Property costs, demand and local market conditions all influence the cost of providing high-quality storage.
5. Responsible price reviews
Storage prices may need to change over time as operating costs, inflation and local market conditions change. Where a rate is reviewed, we aim to manage that change responsibly and provide at least 28 days’ notice before a new rate takes effect.
6. Pricing built around long-term relationships
Ultimately, we want customers to stay with Squab because they value our facilities, our service and the way they’re treated — not because the true cost of their storage was difficult to understand when they signed up.
Six months on: customers are asking more questions about storage prices
One of the most interesting things we’ve noticed since introducing the Squab Price Charter is the conversations it has started.
Customers comparing Squab with another storage provider are increasingly asking what happens to their price after an introductory offer ends.
That’s a good question.
In fact, we’d encourage anyone comparing self storage providers to ask it.
Don’t simply compare today’s advertised price. Ask:
- What will I pay when the introductory offer ends?
- How long will that price remain in place?
- How and when are storage price increases reviewed?
- How much notice will I receive if my price changes?
- Can I see the normal storage price before providing my personal details?
The answers give you a much better picture of what your storage could actually cost over the period you expect to use it.
The cheapest starting price isn’t necessarily the best value
Price matters. We know that.
But the headline price is only one part of choosing the right self storage provider.
Security, accessibility, cleanliness, customer service, location and the quality of the facility all contribute to the value you’re receiving.
So does confidence in what you’re going to pay.
At Squab, we don’t position ourselves around simply being the cheapest storage provider. Our focus is on providing secure, professionally managed storage facilities backed by personal service and straightforward pricing.
The Price Charter makes the pricing part of that commitment visible.
No surprises. Just a clearer way to approach self storage pricing.
The Squab Price Charter didn’t require us to reinvent the way we price storage.
It required us to put our approach in writing.
Six months later, that distinction feels increasingly important.
Customers should feel comfortable asking questions about price before choosing a storage provider. They should understand the offer they’re signing up for, what happens afterwards and how future price reviews are handled.
Our promise remains simple:
Clear prices. Fair promotions. No surprises.
