Squab Storage Bridgwater’s Martyn Tucker Named Runner-Up in SSA UK Site Manager of the Year Awards 2026

On 29th April, the self-storage industry came together to celebrate some of the very best operators, managers and teams across the UK at the SSA UK Awards 2026. For everyone at Squab Storage, it was a particularly proud evening as Bridgwater Site Manager, Martyn Tucker, was announced as Runner-Up in the highly respected Site Manager of the Year category.

For someone who only entered the storage industry a year ago, it marks an incredible achievement — but for anyone who has worked alongside Martyn, it probably comes as no surprise.

At Squab, we believe great storage is about people first. Systems matter. Facilities matter. Pricing matters. But the thing customers remember most is how they were treated during moments that are often stressful, overwhelming or uncertain. Martyn has embodied that mindset from day one.

Whether helping a family during a house move, supporting local businesses with flexible storage solutions, or simply making time for customers who need reassurance, Martyn has built a reputation for doing things properly, calmly and with genuine care.

“To be shortlisted for Manager of the Year after only a year in the storage industry was something I genuinely never expected. Coming from a completely different background, there’s been a lot to learn and definitely moments of imposter syndrome along the way.

What surprised me most about the industry was how supportive and collaborative it is. I came from a much more cut-throat environment, so it’s been refreshing to see people willing to share ideas and support each other.

At Squab, we always try to do what’s right for the customer, not just what’s easiest for the business, and I think the feedback we receive through our Google reviews reflects that. I’m incredibly proud of the team and the customer experience we’ve built together at Bridgwater.

I believe standards matter, and as a manager you can’t expect people to care about the small things if you don’t yourself. No job is beneath you, whether that’s solving problems, supporting the team or sweeping the floor.

Finishing second was a real honour, especially considering the experience and talent in the room, but it’s definitely motivated me to come back and have another go next year.”

That mentality — caring about the small things, leading from the front and always prioritising the customer experience — is deeply connected to Squab Storage’s wider vision for the future of self-storage in the UK.

Over the last year, Squab has been refining not just its operations, but its role in the industry itself. At a time when many customers feel overwhelmed by hidden costs, confusing promotions and aggressive sales tactics, Squab has been working towards something simpler and more transparent.

That thinking led to the launch of the Squab Storage Price Charter — a commitment designed to make storage pricing clearer, easier to understand and less “salesy” for customers navigating what can already be a stressful life moment.

The Charter reflects the same principles Martyn brings to his role every day:

  • transparency over confusion,
  • honesty over pressure,
  • and long-term trust over short-term wins.

It’s become something of a north star for the business — helping guide decisions across customer service, communication and operations.

Squab’s brand positioning centres around delivering high standards with genuinely personal service, combining professionalism with a calm, human approach to customer care. That commitment to clarity, transparency and local accountability is not just something written into a strategy document — it is reflected in people like Martyn and the culture being built across the business every day.

For the Squab team, the award is more than individual recognition. It is proof that doing things the right way still matters.

And judging by Martyn’s reaction, second place may only be the beginning.
